1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to education; authorizing school districts to 1.3 pursue additional revenue sources; proposing coding 1.4 for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 123B. 1.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. [123B.025] [SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP AND ADVERTISING 1.7 REVENUE.] 1.8 Subdivision 1. [BOARD AUTHORITY; CONTRACTS.] A school 1.9 board may enter into a contract with advertisers, sponsors, or 1.10 others regarding advertising and naming rights to school 1.11 facilities and vehicles under the general charge of the 1.12 district. A contract authorized under this section must be 1.13 approved by the school board. The powers granted to a school 1.14 board under this section are in addition to any other authority 1.15 the school district may have. 1.16 Subd. 2. [AUTHORIZED AGREEMENTS.] A school district may 1.17 enter into a contract to: 1.18 (1) lease the naming rights for school facilities, 1.19 including school buildings, ice arenas, and stadiums; 1.20 (2) sell advertising on or in the facilities listed in 1.21 clause (1); 1.22 (3) sell advertising on or in school buses subject to the 1.23 content restrictions of section 123B.93; and 1.24 (4) otherwise enter into an agreement with a sponsoring 1.25 agent. 2.1 Subd. 3. [REVENUE USES.] Revenue generated under this 2.2 section must be used according to a plan specified by the school 2.3 board.
