A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; establishing a pollinator-friendly neighborhood
program; appropriating money; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 84.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

(a) The commissioner of natural resources, in consultation with local units of
government, shall develop model criteria that may be used by local units of government
for designating pollinator-friendly neighborhoods, which may be as small as a city block.
In developing the criteria, the commissioner must consider:

(1) the percentage of properties within a neighborhood refraining from using
pesticides or pesticide-containing products known to negatively impact pollinators; and

(2) the percentage of properties within a neighborhood providing pollinator habitat.

(b) The commissioner shall develop signs that may be erected in neighborhoods
designated by local units of government as pollinator friendly under this section. The
commissioner shall provide the signs to local units of government upon request.

$....... in fiscal year 2016 is appropriated from the ....... fund to the commissioner of
natural resources to develop and provide signs for the pollinator-friendly neighborhood
program under Minnesota Statutes, section 84.974.
