  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state government; classifying certain data 
  1.3             of the economic security department; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 268.0122, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 268.0122, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 6.  [DATA CLASSIFICATION.] Data collected pursuant to 
  1.10  a program operated by the commissioner are nonpublic data or 
  1.11  private data on individuals as defined in section 13.02, 
  1.12  subdivisions 9 and 12, unless more restrictively classified.  
  1.13  The commissioner may disclose any data collected for purposes of 
  1.14  meeting the data subject's needs or to assist in evaluating the 
  1.15  effectiveness of a program.  Nothing in this subdivision limits 
  1.16  the sharing or exchanging of data authorized by state or federal 
  1.17  law.
