  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to elections; fair campaign practices; 
  1.3             prohibiting signs within 100 feet of a polling place 
  1.4             regardless of when erected; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 1994, section 211B.11, subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 211B.11, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [SOLICITING NEAR POLLING PLACES.] A person 
  1.10  may not display campaign material, post signs, ask, solicit, or 
  1.11  in any manner try to induce or persuade a voter within a polling 
  1.12  place or within 100 feet of the building in which a polling 
  1.13  place is situated, or anywhere on the public property on which a 
  1.14  polling place is situated, on primary or election day to vote 
  1.15  for or refrain from voting for a candidate or ballot 
  1.16  question.  The prohibition in this section applies to campaign 
  1.17  material or signs posted before primary or election day within a 
  1.18  polling place or within 100 feet of the building in which a 
  1.19  polling place is situated, if the campaign material or sign 
  1.20  remains in place on primary or election day.  A person may not 
  1.21  provide political badges, political buttons, or other political 
  1.22  insignia to be worn at or about the polling place on the day of 
  1.23  a primary or election.  A political badge, political button, or 
  1.24  other political insignia may not be worn at or about the polling 
  1.25  place on primary or election day.  This section applies to areas 
  2.1   established by the county auditor or municipal clerk for 
  2.2   absentee voting as provided in chapter 203B. 
  2.3      The secretary of state, county auditor, municipal clerk, or 
  2.4   school district clerk may provide stickers which contain the 
  2.5   words "I VOTED" and nothing more.  Election judges may offer a 
  2.6   sticker of this type to each voter who has signed the polling 
  2.7   place roster.
