  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state lands; authorizing the private sale 
  1.3             of certain tax-forfeited lands bordering public waters 
  1.4             in Cook and St. Louis counties. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [PRIVATE SALE OF TAX-FORFEITED LAND; COOK 
  1.7   COUNTY.] 
  1.8      (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, sections 92.45 and 
  1.9   282.018, subdivision 1, and the public sale provisions of 
  1.10  Minnesota Statutes, chapter 282, Cook county may sell by private 
  1.11  sale to the Grand Portage Band of Chippewa Indians the lands 
  1.12  bordering public waters that are described in paragraph (c), 
  1.13  under the remaining provisions of Minnesota Statutes, chapter 
  1.14  282. 
  1.15     (b) The conveyance must be in a form approved by the 
  1.16  attorney general. 
  1.17     (c) The lands that may be conveyed are located in Cook 
  1.18  county and are described as: 
  1.19     (1) Township 63 North, Range 5 East, Section 25, part of 
  1.20  Government Lot 1, consisting of 6.54 acres, parcel number 
  1.21  57-325-1125; 
  1.22     (2) Township 63 North, Range 5 East, Section 25, that part 
  1.23  of Government Lot 3 lying south of the southern right-of-way of 
  1.24  state highway 61, consisting of 10.5 acres, parcel number 
  1.25  57-325-1300; and 
  2.1      (3) Township 63 North, Range 7 East, Section 5, part of 
  2.2   Government Lot 9, consisting of three acres, parcel number 
  2.3   59-305-1100. 
  2.4      (d) The lands are located within the Grand Portage Indian 
  2.5   Reservation and the county wishes to assist the Grand Portage 
  2.6   Band of Chippewa Indians in acquiring lands within the 
  2.7   reservation. 
  2.8      Sec. 2.  [SALE OF TAX-FORFEITED LAND; COOK COUNTY.] 
  2.9      (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, sections 92.45 and 
  2.10  282.018, subdivision 1, the conveyance by Cook county in October 
  2.11  1993, of the tax-forfeited land bordering public waters that is 
  2.12  described in paragraph (b), is hereby ratified. 
  2.13     (b) The land that was conveyed is located in Cook county 
  2.14  and is described as:  the one acre southwest corner of 
  2.15  Government Lot 6, Township 63 North, Range 5 East, Section 31. 
  2.16     (c) Through an error, the county sold the land to a private 
  2.17  party in October 1993, without legislative authorization.  The 
  2.18  county has determined that the county's land management 
  2.19  interests would best be served if the lands were returned to 
  2.20  private ownership. 
  2.21     Sec. 3.  [SALE OF STATE LAND IN ST. LOUIS COUNTY.] 
  2.22     (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 92.45, the 
  2.23  commissioner of natural resources may sell the school trust land 
  2.24  bordering public waters described in paragraph (b) in accordance 
  2.25  with the procedures in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 92, for sale 
  2.26  of school trust lands. 
  2.27     (b) The land to be sold is located in St. Louis county and 
  2.28  is described as:  part of Lot 1, Block 2, Perch Lake Homesite 
  2.29  Addition, according to the plat thereof on file and of record in 
  2.30  the office of the county recorder, and parts of the unplatted 
  2.31  portions of Government Lots 7 and 8, Section 16, Township 60 
  2.32  North, Range 21 West. 
  2.33     Sec. 4.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.34     Sections 1 to 3 are effective the day following final 
  2.35  enactment.
