  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to agriculture; providing continuing support 
  1.3             for turf grass research and development in Minnesota; 
  1.4             appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $100,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.8   commissioner of agriculture for a grant to the University of 
  1.9   Minnesota for funding of continued research and development on 
  1.10  improved turf grasses to be produced in Minnesota.  The agronomy 
  1.11  and plant genetics department shall continue its collaboration 
  1.12  with turf seed producing and seed marketing companies in 
  1.13  Minnesota.  This appropriation remains available until June 30, 
  1.14  1999. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [REPORT.] 
  1.16     Not later than March 1, 1999, the agronomy and plant 
  1.17  genetics department of the University of Minnesota shall report 
  1.18  to the committees of the Minnesota senate and house of 
  1.19  representatives that deal with agricultural policy on the 
  1.20  activities and interim results of the appropriation under 
  1.21  section 1. 
  1.22     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.23     Section 1 is effective the day after final enactment.
