  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to the program of temporary assistance for 
  1.3             needy families; establishing requirements for new 
  1.4             state residents; proposing coding for new law as 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 256J. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [256J.155] [TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY 
  1.8   FAMILIES; BENEFITS FOR INTERSTATE IMMIGRANTS.] 
  1.9      A family that has moved to Minnesota from another state and 
  1.10  has resided in Minnesota for less than 12 months shall be 
  1.11  provided TANF benefits in an amount which is the lesser of: 
  1.12     (1) the benefit available under the Minnesota state plan; 
  1.13  or 
  1.14     (2) the benefit available under the rules of the family's 
  1.15  prior state of residence, including the amount of the benefit. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1997.
