  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to criminal procedure; allowing probable 
  1.3             cause arrests within school zones for certain 
  1.4             offenses; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes, chapter 629.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [629.343] [ALLOWING PROBABLE CAUSE ARRESTS FOR 
  1.8   OFFENSES WITHIN SCHOOL ZONES.] 
  1.9      Notwithstanding section 629.34, or any other law or rule, a 
  1.10  peace officer may arrest a person anywhere without a warrant, 
  1.11  including at the person's residence, if the peace officer has 
  1.12  probable cause to believe that the person within the preceding 
  1.13  four hours has committed a fifth degree assault, as defined in 
  1.14  section 609.224, within a school zone, as defined in section 
  1.15  152.01, subdivision 14a.  
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1995, and applies to 
  1.18  crimes committed on or after that date.
