1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to the legislature; reducing the number of 1.3 members of the senate and house of representatives; 1.4 amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, sections 2.021; and 1.5 2.031, subdivision 1. 1.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 2.021, is 1.8 amended to read: 1.9 2.021 [NUMBER OF MEMBERS.] 1.10 For each legislature,until a new apportionment shall have1.11been made,the senate is composed of6756 members and the house 1.12 of representatives is composed of134112 members. 1.13 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 2.031, 1.14 subdivision 1, is amended to read: 1.15 Subdivision 1. [LEGISLATIVE DISTRICTS.] The 1.16 representatives in the senate and house of representatives are 1.17 apportioned throughout the state in6756 senate districts and 1.18134112 house districts. Each senate district is entitled to 1.19 elect one senator, and each house district is entitled to elect 1.20 one representative. 1.21 Sec. 3. [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 1.22 Sections 1 and 2 are effective for elections held to elect 1.23 senators and representatives to serve after January 1, 2003.
