A bill for an act
relating to game and fish; requiring a fishery
management plan for Green Lake in Kandiyohi County.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin GREEN LAKE FISHERY MANAGEMENT PLAN.

new text begin By May 1, 2006, the
commissioner of natural resources must complete a fishery
management plan for Green Lake in Kandiyohi County. At a
minimum, the plan must include:

new text begin (1) continuation of the Department of Natural Resources
walleye stocking at the rate of two pounds per littoral acre
annually;
new text end

new text begin (2) recovery of the traditional primary walleye fishery;
and
new text end

new text begin (3) protection of the secondary smallmouth bass trophy
fishery.

new text begin Fishing restrictions. new text end

new text begin (a) In Green Lake, the
daily limit for walleye is three and the daily limit for
smallmouth bass is six, with a required release of both species
of fish that are over 20 inches.

new text begin (b) The beginning and end times for the smallmouth bass
harvest season on Green Lake must be the same as the walleye
season.

new text begin (c) Smallmouth bass regulations adopted by the commissioner
for other parts of the state do not apply on Green Lake.

new text begin Periodic meetings on the management
plan may be held by the commissioner in the vicinity of Green
Lake. Five years after implementation of the Green Lake fishery
management plan, the commissioner must hold a public hearing in
Kandiyohi County on the progress of walleye recovery in Green
Lake. Any proposed changes to the management plan must be based
on consensus reached at the public hearing.
