  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to disaster relief; providing disaster relief 
  1.3             for counties with a major natural disaster from high 
  1.4             winds; appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATIONS.] 
  1.7      Subdivision 1.  [ELIGIBILITY.] The sums in this section are 
  1.8   appropriated from the general fund for the fiscal years 
  1.9   indicated, to be spent for disaster relief and mitigation, as 
  1.10  specified in this section, in the areas of Minnesota impacted by 
  1.11  high winds in June of 2001.  The appropriations are for the 
  1.12  fiscal years indicated and are available until June 30, 2003, 
  1.13  unless otherwise specified.  
  1.14     Subd. 2.  [PUBLIC SAFETY; LOCAL SHARE.] $2,500,000 is 
  1.15  appropriated for fiscal year 2001 to the commissioner of public 
  1.16  safety for the local share of any federal disaster assistance 
  1.17  funds under Minnesota Statutes, section 12.221.  
  1.18     This appropriation is available to fund 100 percent of the 
  1.19  local match obligation if the state receives federal disaster 
  1.20  assistance for the high winds in June of 2001, in Meeker, Swift, 
  1.21  and Kandiyohi counties.  
  1.22     Subd. 3.  [DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT; 
  1.23  PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE ASSISTANCE.] $10,000,000 is appropriated 
  1.24  to the commissioner of trade and economic development for fiscal 
  1.25  years 2002 and 2003 for grants to local units of government 
  2.1   under Minnesota Statutes, sections 116J.561 to 116J.566, for 
  2.2   disaster relief projects in Meeker, Swift, and Kandiyohi 
  2.3   counties including projects to assist with significant damage to 
  2.4   trees and to publicly owned utilities.  
  2.5      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.6      This act is effective the day after final enactment.
