A bill for an act
relating to broadband; appropriating money for the broadband development
grant program.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.

(a) $50,000,000 in fiscal year 2016 is appropriated from the general fund to
the commissioner of employment and economic development for deposit in the
border-to-border broadband fund account in the special revenue fund for the purpose of
funding broadband development grants under Minnesota Statutes, section 116J.395.

(b) Sixty percent of the amount appropriated in paragraph (a) must be reserved for
grants to unserved communities. If, after June 30, 2016, money remains in the account
and there are no unfunded applications from qualified unserved communities, the balance
remaining in the fund may be used to fund applications from any qualified applicant.

EFFECTIVE DATE.

This section is effective the day following final enactment.
