A bill for an act
relating to fire protection; requiring disclosures regarding compliance with fire
sprinkler requirements; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
chapter 325F.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin (a) A real estate broker as defined under section 82.55, subdivision 19, shall:

new text begin (1) provide a written disclosure to all prospective buyers when a single-family
home constructed after January 15, 2015, does not conform with the requirements of the
International Residential Code related to residential fire sprinkler systems; and

new text begin (2) include a statement in any written, electronic, audio, video, or other type of
advertisement for any single-family residential home that does not meet the residential fire
sprinkler requirements under the International Residential Code as follows: "This home
does not meet the minimum fire protection standards of the International Residential Code."

new text begin (b) Prospective single-family home buyers must certify, on a form prescribed by
the commissioner, that they have received the information required under paragraph
(a), clause (1).
