A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; requiring the installation of electric fish barriers.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin ELECTRIC FISH BARRIERS.

new text begin The commissioner of natural resources shall install electric fish barriers, using the
most modern technology available for fish dispersal systems, to address the imminent
threat posed to Minnesota's lakes and rivers by Asian carp. The commissioner of natural
resources shall install strategically placed electric barriers at:

new text begin (1) United States Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, Lock and Dam 1;
new text end

new text begin (2) the Minnesota River flood control walls in the city of Mankato; and
new text end

new text begin (3) other locations determined by the commissioner to be strategic in mitigating the
threat to Minnesota's waters from Asian carp.

new text begin The commissioner shall award a design-build contract for the design and construction
of the electric barrier at Lock and Dam 1 no later than March 15, 2013. Construction of
the electric barrier at Lock and Dam 1 shall be completed no later than March 31, 2014.
