A bill for an act
relating to human services; allowing certain firefighters and volunteer ambulance
attendants to purchase MinnesotaCare coverage at full cost; amending Minnesota
Statutes 2008, section 256L.07, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 256L.07, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

new text begin Firefighters; volunteer ambulance attendants. new text end

new text begin (a) For purposes of this
subdivision, "qualified individual" means:

new text begin (1) a firefighter certified by a city or local unit of government who has passed the
probationary period; and
new text end

new text begin (2) a volunteer ambulance attendant as defined in section 144E.001, subdivision 15.

new text begin (b) A qualified individual whose household income exceeds the applicable
MinnesotaCare income limit, but who is otherwise eligible under this chapter, is eligible
for MinnesotaCare, but must pay the maximum premium, as defined in section 256L.15,
subdivision 2, paragraph (b).
