A bill for an act
relating to game and fish; removing bow and gun case requirements; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2008, sections 97A.091, subdivision 1; 97B.036; 97B.045,
subdivision 1; 97B.051; repealing Minnesota Statutes 2008, sections 97B.035,
subdivision 2; 97B.045, subdivision 2.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 97A.091, subdivision 1, is amended to
read:


Subdivision 1.

Hunting deleted text begin and possession of firearmsdeleted text end .

Except as provided in
subdivision 2, a person may not take a wild animal, except fish, within a state game refuge.
deleted text begin A person may not carry within a refuge:
deleted text end

deleted text begin (1) a firearm unless the firearm is unloaded and contained in a case, or unloaded
and broken down; or
deleted text end

deleted text begin (2) an uncased bow.

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 97B.036, is amended to read:


97B.036 CROSSBOW HUNTING DURING FIREARMS SEASON.

Notwithstanding section 97B.035, deleted text begin subdivisionsdeleted text end new text begin subdivisionnew text end 1 deleted text begin and 2deleted text end , a person may
take deer, bear, or turkey by crossbow during the respective regular firearms seasons.
deleted text begin The transportation requirements of section 97B.051 apply to crossbows during the regular
firearms deer, bear, or turkey season.
deleted text end Crossbows must meet the requirements of section
97B.106, subdivision 2. A person taking deer, bear, or turkey by crossbow under this
section must have a valid firearms license to take the respective game.

Sec. 3.

Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 97B.045, subdivision 1, is amended to read:
