4620.3573 PERMANENT ENCLOSURE REQUIREMENTS.

Installation of a permanent enclosure of asbestos-containing material must meet the requirements in this part.

A.

A permanent enclosure must:

(1)

consist of a rigid barrier with impermeable sides;

(2)

be designed to prevent air movement across the rigid barrier; and

(3)

render the area behind it inaccessible.

B.

Any asbestos-containing materials that will be disturbed during the installation of hangers, brackets, or other portions of the permanent enclosure must be sprayed with water to which surfactant has been added.

C.

Any loose or hanging asbestos-containing material must be removed before construction of the enclosure.

D.

The permanent enclosure must be specially designated, according to Code of Federal Regulations, title 29, section 1926.1101(k)(8), to warn individuals who may disturb the enclosure.
