An act

relating to watercraft; modifying requirements for carbon monoxide detection devices;

amending Minnesota Statutes 2016, sections 86B.005, subdivision 8a; 86B.532, subdivision 1.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 86B.005, subdivision 8a, is amended to read:

Subd. 8a.

Marine carbon monoxide detection system.

"Marine carbon monoxide detection system" means a device or system deleted text begin that meets the requirements of the American Boat and Yacht Council Standard A-24, July, 2015, for carbon monoxide detection systems.deleted text end new text begin for detecting carbon monoxide that is certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory to conform to current UL Standards for use on recreational boats.new text end

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 86B.532, subdivision 1, is amended to read:

Subdivision 1.

(a) No motorboat new text begin used for recreational purposesnew text end that has an enclosed accommodation compartment may be operated on any waters of the state unless the motorboat is equipped with a functioning marine carbon monoxide detection system installed according to the manufacturer's instructionsnew text begin and this subdivisionnew text end .
