                        CHAPTER 569-H.F.No. 2554 
           An act relating to education; allowing noncontiguous 
          school districts to consolidate; amending Minnesota 
          Statutes 1986, section 122.23, subdivision 1. 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
    Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1986, section 122.23, 
subdivision 1, is amended to read:  
    Subdivision 1.  Common or independent districts or parts 
thereof, or any combination of the foregoing may consolidate 
into a single independent district by proceedings taken in 
accordance with this section.  The proposed new district must 
contain at least 18 sections of land.  A proposed new district 
must be composed of contiguous areas unless an entire district 
is to be part of a district which maintains a secondary school 
and there is no district intervening which maintains a secondary 
school.
