                  An act relating to agriculture; changing requirements 
                  for certain commodity council referenda; amending 
                  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 17.56, subdivision 5. 
        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
           Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 17.56, 
        subdivision 5, is amended to read: 
           Subd. 5.  [FAILED REFERENDUM.] If a referendum is conducted 
        and a proposed promotional order is not approved, the 
        commissioner shall not conduct another referendum on any 
        promotional order for the same commodity until one year has 
        elapsed, except for the Minnesota canola council, for which six 
        months must have elapsed. 
           Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
           This act is effective the day following final enactment.
