A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring the Minnesota State High School League to adopt
policies relating to youth hockey; amending Minnesota Statutes 2016, section
128C.01, subdivision 3.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 128C.01, subdivision 3, is amended to read:


Subd. 3.

League power to control.

new text begin (a) new text end The State High School League may control
contests by and between pupils of the Minnesota high schools that are delegated to it under
this section.

new text begin (b) The league must adopt rules and regulations providing that:

new text begin (1) the length of a high school varsity hockey game is three 20-minute periods;
new text end

new text begin (2) high school varsity hockey teams may participate in up to six exhibition games per
season under the control of the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission, and exhibition
games under this clause shall not count against the maximum per-season game limit otherwise
established by league rule; and

new text begin (3) high school junior varsity girls hockey teams may participate in up to six exhibition
games per season against teams not affiliated with a school or under the control of the league.
