BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

625, St. Paul Public Schools, for professional development and culturally relevant
instructional materials at East African Magnet School:

new text begin (b) The professional development must include instruction for teachers on how to navigate
free open source repositories containing literacy resources, selecting and translating culturally
relevant materials, incorporating first language resources into literacy instruction, and
adapting stories for diverse learners. St. Paul Public Schools may use grant money to pay
for salaries and benefits of staff or may contract with a third party to provide the professional
development. The district must share the literacy and professional development resources
developed as a result of receiving the grant through a Creative Commons license that requires
attribution, noncommercial usage, and distribution of modified materials under the same
license as the original. The resources must be available under an appropriate license and at
no cost to schools throughout Minnesota.
