  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to insurance; modifying minimum education 
  1.3             requirements for insurance agents; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 2000, section 60K.19, subdivision 8. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 60K.19, 
  1.7   subdivision 8, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 8.  [MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT.] Each person 
  1.9   subject to this section shall complete a minimum of 30 credit 
  1.10  hours of courses accredited by the commissioner during each 
  1.11  24-month licensing period.  Any person whose initial licensing 
  1.12  period extends more than six months shall complete 15 hours of 
  1.13  courses accredited by the commissioner during the initial 
  1.14  license period.  Any person teaching or lecturing at an 
  1.15  accredited course qualifies for 1-1/2 three times the number of 
  1.16  credit hours that would be granted to a person completing the 
  1.17  accredited course.  No more than 15 one-half of the credit hours 
  1.18  per licensing period required under this section may be credited 
  1.19  to a person for courses attending any combination of courses 
  1.20  either:  (1) sponsored by, offered by, or affiliated with an 
  1.21  insurance company or its agents; or (2) offered using new 
  1.22  delivery technology, including computer, interactive technology, 
  1.23  and the Internet.  Courses sponsored by, offered by, or 
  1.24  affiliated with an insurance company or agent may restrict its 
  1.25  students to agents of the company or agency.
