  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; prohibiting districts from 
  1.3             implementing the profile of learning; providing for 
  1.4             the return of student written responses to the state's 
  1.5             basic skills test for written composition; prohibiting 
  1.6             future use of the January 26, 2000, written test 
  1.7             prompt. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  [STUDENTS HELD HARMLESS.] 
  1.10     Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, school districts 
  1.11  must not implement the profile of learning as a requirement 
  1.12  needed to graduate from high school under Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.13  sections 120B.02 and 120B.03.  
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [TEST RESULTS RETURNED; PROMPT ELIMINATED.] 
  1.15     (a) A school district must return to students their written 
  1.16  response to the January 26, 2000, test prompt from the state's 
  1.17  basic skills test for written composition under Minnesota 
  1.18  Statutes, section 120B.02, within 15 calendar days of receiving 
  1.19  the students' scored responses.  District personnel shall not 
  1.20  have access to the students' responses for any purpose except to 
  1.21  return the responses to the students. 
  1.22     (b) The test prompt for the state's basic skills test for 
  1.23  written composition administered on January 26, 2000, shall no 
  1.24  longer be administered to students. 
  1.25     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.26     Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  2.1   enactment.
