relating to education; appropriating money to the Department of Education for a
grant to the Minnesota Historical Society to provide professional development
for teachers.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin The appropriation must be used to provide content-based professional development
and curriculum development for teachers to:

new text begin (1) improve implementation of the Minnesota academic standards in history and
social studies, particularly those standards relating to Minnesota history;
new text end

new text begin (2) improve teaching of Minnesota history and integrating Minnesota history content
into the study of American history;
new text end

new text begin (3) improve implementation of the historical skills portion of the applied learning
standards; and
new text end

new text begin (4) assist teachers and school districts in integrating the skills and content related
to the Minnesota academic standards in social studies with the skills and content related
to the Minnesota academic standards in language arts and other content areas of the
Minnesota academic standards.
