A bill for an act
relating to workforce development; appropriating money for SciTechsperience.

new text begin $1,730,000 in fiscal year 2020 and $1,730,000 in fiscal year 2021 are appropriated from
the workforce development fund to the commissioner of employment and economic
development for a grant to the Minnesota High Tech Association to support
SciTechsperience, a program that supports science, technology, engineering, and math
(STEM) internship opportunities for two- and four-year college students and graduate
students in their field of study. The internship opportunities must match students with paid
internships within STEM disciplines at small, for-profit companies located in Minnesota
having fewer than 250 employees worldwide. At least 400 students must be matched in the
first year and at least 425 students must be matched in the second year. No more than 15
percent of the hires may be graduate students. Selected hiring companies shall receive from
the grant 50 percent of the wages paid to the intern, capped at $3,000 per intern. The program
