1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the life of Grand Forks Police Officer Cody Holte
1.3WHEREAS, the strength and success of our communities depends upon the dedication and
1.4leadership of strong individuals; and
1.5WHEREAS, Grand Forks Police Officer Cody Holte, a highly respected peace officer, lost
1.6his life on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, while responding to assist deputies from the Grand Forks
1.7County Sheriff's Office who were fired upon as they served an eviction notice; and
1.8WHEREAS, Officer Holte was originally from Halstad, Minnesota, graduated from Norman
1.9County West High School in 2010, and went on to complete basic training and become a military
1.10engineer for the North Dakota National Guard; and
1.11WHEREAS, Officer Holte graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2015
1.12where he studied criminal justice, sociology, and military science; and
1.13WHEREAS, Officer Holte was a first lieutenant in the North Dakota National Guard and a
1.14three-year veteran of the Grand Forks Police Department where he also served as a member of the
1.15Grand Forks Police Department's Honor Guard and the Northeast Regional Water Rescue Team;
1.16and
1.17WHEREAS, Officer Holte has been described as a wonderful husband, father, and brother;
1.18a friend to all with a big heart and a dedication to protecting and serving his community; and
1.19someone who will be severely missed; and
1.20WHEREAS, Officer Holte is survived by his wife Amanda; his 10-month-old son Gunnar;
1.21his parents, sister, and twin brother, who serves as an officer in Fargo; and a large extended family;
1.22and
2.1NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.2mourns the loss and honors the life of Police Officer Cody Holte and extends its sincerest
2.3condolences to his family and friends; and
2.4BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.5enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.6Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family of Officer
2.7Cody Holte.
