1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing and acknowledging Mei Livanh Yang for her outstanding leadership and
1.3service to the community.
1.4WHEREAS, Mei Livanh Yang is a generous woman who has been serving her community
1.5to the fullest; and
1.6WHEREAS, Mei came to America in 1989 from Ban Vinai Refugee Camp in Thailand and
1.7graduated from Central High School in St. Paul. She went on to finish her Associate of Arts degree
1.8at Dunwoody College; and
1.9WHEREAS, in addition to working full time to support her large family, Mei serves diligently
1.10as executive board member of several organizations such as the Hawj United of Minnesota, Inc.,
1.11Hawj National Unity, Lao Family of Minnesota, Hmong 18 Council, Inc., and Hmong Central
1.12Lutheran Church as the Women Fellowship Director; and
1.13WHEREAS, Mei is steadfast in her family values and volunteering service; and
1.14WHEREAS, on December 17, 2016, she was acknowledged and honored for her outstanding
1.15leadership and service to her family, church, and the Hmong-American community; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.17recognizes and honors leadership, service, and commitment to uphold the traditions and values of
1.18the Asian-Pacific community.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.20enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.21Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Mei Livanh Yang.
