1.2honoring Kelly Holstine on being named Minnesota's 2018 Teacher of the 1.3Year 1.4WHEREAS, the Minnesota Teacher of the Year program is the oldest and most prestigious 1.5recognition program in Minnesota to honor excellence in education; and 1.6WHEREAS, a member of the teaching profession must be a caring and committed person 1.7who believes in the ability of all students to learn; and 1.8WHEREAS, Kelly didn't set out to be a teacher, she originally worked in the media and 1.9social services in Minnesota, Iowa, and Washington; and 1.10WHEREAS, she returned to college at Augsburg where she received her teaching license 1.11in 2007 and her master's degree in 2011; and 1.12WHEREAS, Kelly is in her 11th year of teaching. She taught at two mainstream high schools 1.13before joining Tokata Learning Center, an alternative high school in Shakopee, as a founding 1.14member in 2012; and 1.15WHEREAS, Kelly's motto has been that every child matters. She believes that with a little 1.16bit of extra love, patience, and understanding every student can flourish, blossom, excel, and learn; 1.17and 1.18NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it 1.19thanks and commends Kelly Holstine for her dedication to teaching and to her students, and 1.20congratulates her on being named Minnesota's 2018 Teacher of the Year. 1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an 1.22enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the 1.23Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Kelly Holstine.
