1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Brandt Richardson on the occasion of his retirement.
1.3WHEREAS, Brandt Richardson began his career in public service after graduating
1.4from Miami University in Ohio and went on to earn graduate degrees from the University of
1.5Wisconsin-Madison and Harvard University; and
1.6WHEREAS, over the course of nearly 40 years in public service, he has worked for the
1.7Dane County Regional Planning Commission in Wisconsin, the Minnesota Department of Natural
1.8Resources, the Minnesota Water Planning Board, and Minnesota's Scott County; and
1.9WHEREAS, Richardson assumed the position of Dakota County Manager/Administrator
1.10in 1992; and
1.11WHEREAS, under Richardson's leadership, Dakota County established a reputation for low
1.12property taxes, strong financial management, quality services, and high resident satisfaction; and
1.13WHEREAS, Richardson's legacy in Dakota County includes greater capacity and safety of
1.14the county highway road system; Minnesota's first bus rapid transitway line; numerous miles of
1.15park trails; full compliance with bridge safety standards; and construction of various facilities
1.16including libraries, service centers, and resources for administrators and visitors; and
1.17WHEREAS, this combination of prudent fiscal stewardship and improvement and
1.18expansion of amenities occurred while the county's population effectively doubled; and
1.19WHEREAS, Brandt Richardson has announced that he will retire in May of this year; and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
1.21that it recognizes Brandt Richardson for outstanding leadership in managing Dakota County's
1.22employees, operations, and resources and honors him for a remarkable career of nearly 40 years
1.23in public service.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.26Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Brandt Richardson.
