1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating the St. Cloud State University wrestling team for winning its third
1.3NCAA Division II championship on March 10, 2018, and completing the season
1.4undefeated.
1.5WHEREAS, competitive sports in our schools are helpful in teaching the principles of
1.6sportsmanship, perseverance, and commitment, thereby contributing to better citizenship; and
1.7WHEREAS, team members, coaches, and staff make sacrifices for the team's success; and
1.8WHEREAS, the Huskies won the 2018 NWCA Division II National Duals championship
1.9and the 2018 NCAA Division III Super 3 Regional championships, won their seventh consecutive
1.10Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship in 2017-18, and have attained a 149-7
1.11record since the 2010-11 season; and
1.12WHEREAS, this championship marks the Huskies' third national title in four seasons,
1.13cementing a dynasty for a team that has placed first or second six times since 2011; and
1.14WHEREAS, Coach Costanzo, in his 12th season at St. Cloud State University, with a career
1.15record of 188-28 and an overall coaching record of 249-58-2, has coached 160 national qualifiers,
1.1687 All-American athletes, and seven individual national champions during his career; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18congratulates the St. Cloud State University wrestling team members on their skill and sportsmanship,
1.19completing the season with an undefeated record, and winning their third NCAA Division II
1.20championship.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.22enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by his signature and that of the Chair of the
1.23Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the St. Cloud State University
1.24wrestling team.
