1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Wabasha Police Officer Dan Metcalf on saving the life of Aliese
1.3Erickson.
1.4WHEREAS, those who work tirelessly in their communities to protect the public's safety
1.5and well-being perform an important service deserving of special legislative recognition; and
1.6WHEREAS, on February 19, 2016, as Wabasha Police Officer Dan Metcalf was getting
1.7ready to referee a basketball game at Wabasha Kellogg High School, he found out that a
1.864-year-old woman, Aliese Erickson, had collapsed in the stands and did not have a pulse; and
1.9WHEREAS, Officer Metcalf and some of the people in the crowd carried Mrs. Erickson
1.10down to the gym floor; he requested that someone call 911 and get an automated external
1.11defibrillator (AED); and
1.12WHEREAS, he began CPR until a student arrived with the AED, then he applied the AED
1.13and continued CPR until Mrs. Erickson regained consciousness and started breathing again; and
1.14WHEREAS, for his decisive and heroic action, Officer Metcalf and Rick Peterson, Rob
1.15Stewart, David Toole, Mark LaVigne, Andrea LaVigne, Da'Shan Rhodes, and Tim Klingbeil
1.16received a lifesaving award from the city and from the ambulance service for the role each played
1.17in saving Mrs. Erickson's life; and
1.18NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
1.19that it congratulates Wabasha Police Officer Dan Metcalf on his decisive and heroic action in
1.20saving the life of Aliese Erickson.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.22enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.23Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Officer Dan Metcalf.
