1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Warrant Officer Candidate Alan Fred Lee.
1.3WHEREAS, Warrant Officer Candidate Alan Fred Lee was born on November 2, 1986, in
1.4San Jose, California, to Shoua Lee and Pound Lee who are refugees from the war torn kingdom of
1.5Laos; and
1.6WHEREAS, the Lees moved to Minnesota in 1990 and have been living in Minnesota ever
1.7since, contributing to the community and local economy; and
1.8WHEREAS, Candidate Lee, a first-generation Hmong American, knew from a young age
1.9that he wanted to have a positive impact on his family, community, and country; and
1.10WHEREAS, in line with his strong family cultural traditions, his parents encouraged him
1.11to work hard in order to achieve his American dreams; and
1.12WHEREAS, Candidate Lee's grandfather served his country by fighting alongside
1.13American Troops in the Vietnam War and set an example that Candidate Lee wanted to follow. At
1.14the age of 17, as a junior in high school, Candidate Lee enlisted in the Minnesota Army National
1.15Guard and became the first of more than 100 cousins to serve in the armed forces; and
1.16WHEREAS, Candidate Lee was deployed in 2007-2008 as part of Operation Iraqi
1.17Freedom and again in 2011-2012 in support of Operation New Dawn. Following his deployment,
1.18Candidate Lee earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014, graduating with honors from
1.19Metropolitan State University; and
1.20WHEREAS, because of Candidate Lee's leadership as the adviser to the Asian American
1.21Pacific Islander Special Emphasis Council, the council has built and sustained new relationships
1.22between the Minnesota National Guard and the communities the council represents. Candidate
2.1Lee's leadership promotes and supports the Adjutant General's commitment to obtaining greater
2.2diversity in the Minnesota National Guard; and
2.3WHEREAS, Candidate Lee's ongoing leadership in our many communities honors his
2.4family's heritage of service in Minnesota and in Southeast Asia. Candidate Lee has provided
2.5leadership, by word and deed, to service members and members of the general public; and
2.6WHEREAS, Candidate Lee upholds both Army values and the values and traditions of
2.7his family. His leadership, loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal
2.8courage have contributed to an innovative and mutually beneficial environment between the
2.9Minnesota Army National Guard and the Minnesota Asian-Pacific community; and
2.10NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.11recognizes and honors the military leadership and service that Candidate Lee has given to this
2.12country and this state, as well as his commitment to uphold the traditions and values of the
2.13Asian-Pacific community.
2.14BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
2.15an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
2.16the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Warrant Officer
2.17Candidate Alan Fred Lee.
