1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating the Minnesota Gopher women's hockey team on winning the 2016 1.3NCAA women's hockey championship. 1.4WHEREAS, competitive sports in our colleges are helpful in teaching the principles of 1.5sportsmanship and fair play, thereby contributing to better citizenship; and 1.6WHEREAS, the Minnesota Gopher women's hockey team was one of eight teams that 1.7participated in the 2016 NCAA women's hockey tournament on March 12-20, 2016; and 1.8WHEREAS, after beating Princeton 6-2 in the quarterfinals and Wisconsin 3-2 in overtime 1.9in the semifinals, the Gophers defeated the previously unbeaten Boston College Eagles 3-1 in 1.10the final game of the tournament at Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, New Hampshire, to 1.11win their seventh national championship; and 1.12WHEREAS, the Gophers finished the season with an outstanding 35-4-1 record and won 1.13their second straight national championship, fourth in the past five years, and seventh in program 1.14history; and 1.15NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that 1.16congratulations are extended to the members of the Minnesota Gopher women's hockey team for 1.17their sportsmanship and skill. 1.18BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare 1.19an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of 1.20the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Minnesota 1.21Gopher women's hockey team.
