1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Superintendent Dennis Carlson on his retirement.
1.3WHEREAS, Dennis Carlson began his education career as an art teacher in Mercer
1.4Common School District in Mercer, Wisconsin, spent a year as recreation supervisor at a youth
1.5center in Kenosha, Wisconsin, then became a community education director, serving in the
1.6Glencoe and Elk River School Districts; and
1.7WHEREAS, Dennis became community education director for Anoka Hennepin
1.8School District in 1986, was appointed Assistant to the Superintendent in 2003, and became
1.9Superintendent five years later; and
1.10WHEREAS, he served on the Minnesota Community Education Association board for five
1.11years, including a year as president, and earned numerous awards from the association, including
1.12its President's Award in 1983, Director of the Year Award in 1985, and Lifetime Achievement
1.13Award in 2003; and
1.14WHEREAS, he earned the National Community Education Association's Special Service
1.15Award in 1985 and the organization's Outstanding Contribution to State Legislation Award in 2002;
1.16he also served as the president's appointee on the Minnesota School Public Relations Association
1.17Board of Directors and won that organization's District Leadership in Communication Award; and
1.18WHEREAS, he is active in the community as a member of the Metro North Chamber of
1.19Commerce and the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Advisory Council, and is a longtime
1.20member of the Coon Rapids Rotary Club, serving a term as president; and
2.1WHEREAS, Denny is a renowned vocalist, harmonic player, and guitarist who has helped
2.2raise over $150,000 for students in need for Anoka High School's Caring and Sharing Fund,
2.3through the Annual Symphonic Rock Concert; and
2.4WHEREAS, after his many years of dedicated service to the education profession, Dennis
2.5has decided to retire; and
2.6NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.7commends Superintendent Dennis Carlson for his many years of dedication and commitment, and
2.8wishes him well in his retirement.
2.9BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.10enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.11Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Dennis Carlson.
