1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing the 150th Anniversary of the Mayo Clinic.
1.3WHEREAS, Dr. William Worrall Mayo first announced his plans to establish a medical
1.4practice in Rochester, Minnesota, on January 27, 1864; and
1.5WHEREAS, the Mayo Clinic is celebrating 150 years of providing continuous, quality
1.6service to patients; and
1.7WHEREAS, the Mayo Clinic has accomplished many historic achievements, including
1.8developing the first integrated, multispecialty practice of medicine, creating the first antiblackout
1.9suits for military pilots during World War II, winning the Nobel Prize in 1950 for discovering
1.10cortisone, developing a DNA test that detects anthrax in less than one hour, and continuing a
1.11tradition of helping individuals in the most need of help, including by deploying medical teams to
1.12earthquake-stricken Haiti; and
1.13WHEREAS, the Mayo Clinic continues to value compassion, integrity, quality, and
1.14innovation in its leadership around the world; and
1.15WHEREAS, the Mayo Clinic is considered a premiere global center of health dedicated
1.16to medical care, research, and education; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.18it congratulates the Mayo Clinic on 150 years of excellence.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.20enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.21Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Mayo Clinic.
