1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Osseo Area Schools Superintendent Kate Maguire on the occasion of her
1.3retirement.
1.4WHEREAS, Superintendent Maguire has served the students, families, and staff of Osseo Area
1.5Schools for 33 years and is celebrating 36 years of commitment and dedicated service to public education
1.6and to the teaching profession; and
1.7WHEREAS, Superintendent Maguire served in a variety of roles in Osseo Area Schools, including
1.8teacher, assistant administrator, assistant principal, principal, director of the teaching and learning and human
1.9resources departments, assistant superintendent, and, for the past eight years, superintendent of schools; and
1.10WHEREAS, Superintendent Maguire has made it a goal to continually learn from Osseo Area Schools
1.11and to design systems of support that allow others to grow, develop, and lead, and believes that education
1.12plays an essential role in improving social justice and in maintaining an informed citizenry, which in turn
1.13sustains our democracy; and
1.14WHEREAS, she was named 2014 Superintendent of the Year by the Minnesota Association of School
1.15Administrators, received the 2017 Business Ethics and Leadership Award from Maple Grove Rotary and a
1.16Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, and received a 2018 Investment in Youth Award from the District
1.17279 Foundation; and
1.18WHEREAS, Superintendent Maguire holds a bachelor's degree from the College of St. Benedict and
1.19a master's degree, educational specialist degree, and doctorate from the University of St. Thomas and has
1.20served on advisory and joint powers boards for many organizations, including the District 279 Foundation,
1.21the University of St. Thomas, the Urban Leadership Academy, and the Brooklyn Bridge Alliance; and
1.22WHEREAS, she lives in the district, her children attended district schools, and she has enormous
1.23respect and admiration for the work that district employees do to serve students; and
1.24WHEREAS, as a native of Virginia, Minnesota, she is an intensely loyal Iron Ranger who is looking
1.25forward to more time spent with family, picking blueberries, and relaxing at the family cabin; and
1.26NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it thanks
1.27and commends Superintendent Kate Maguire for her 36 years of dedication and commitment and the positive
1.28impact she has had on students, families, and staff in the district and extends congratulations and best wishes
1.29to her on her retirement.
1.30BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare a copy of this
1.31resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair of the Senate Rules and
1.32Administration Committee, and transmit it to Superintendent Kate Maguire.
