1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Rebekah Steward for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award.
1.3WHEREAS, Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, helping girls
1.4to reach their full potential, develop positive values, and contribute to the improvement of society
1.5through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others; and
1.6WHEREAS, to earn the highest award given by the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the Gold
1.7Award, a Girl Scout in high school must complete leadership journeys that help her discover her
1.8interests, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. She must then
1.9spend at least 80 hours planning and completing a comprehensive and sustainable take action
1.10project that uses her talent and passion to positively impact her community; and
1.11WHEREAS, Rebekah Steward is a serving and responsible member of the Girl Scouts and
1.12has completed all requirements necessary to earn the Gold Award; and
1.13WHEREAS, for her Gold Award project, Rebekah wanted to help older members of her
1.14community while also helping others understand the differences between generations, and in her
1.15research, she learned that many patients at Methodist Hospital have a hard time transitioning when
1.16they have to start using a walker to get around, so she went to work educating her community
1.17about the issue through talks and posters; she empowered community members to help by creating
1.18walker bags that can be used with a walker to carry items from place to place, and she created a
1.19video showing how to make the bags and distributed it; and
1.20WHEREAS, she will receive the Gold Award at a Recognition Ceremony; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.22it congratulates Rebekah Steward on receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award, and extends best
1.23wishes to her for the future.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.26Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Rebekah Steward.
