1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the small businesses of the state and the National Federation of
1.3Independent Business on its 75th anniversary.
1.4WHEREAS, small businesses are the backbone of the economy and create a vast array of
1.5goods, services, and jobs throughout this state and across America; and
1.6WHEREAS, the laws of the United States recognize that encouraging and developing the
1.7capacity of small business are essential to the free market competition upon which the economic
1.8well-being and security of the nation depend; and
1.9WHEREAS, on May 20, 1943, the National Federation of Small Business was created to
1.10represent the interests of thousands of small businesses and on April 4, 1949, the National Federation
1.11of Independent Business (NFIB) succeeded to the work of the National Federation of Small Business;
1.12and
1.13WHEREAS, NFIB has expanded to represent hundreds of thousands of small and independent
1.14businesses, including many in this state, and has advanced their ability to own, operate, and grow
1.15their businesses; and
1.16WHEREAS, NFIB ensures that the government of the United States and the 50 states hear
1.17the voice of small business as they formulate public policies; and
1.18WHEREAS, the small and independent businesses and the people of this state have benefited
1.19from the work of NFIB for three-quarters of a century; and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.21recognizes and appreciates the excellent work of NFIB on behalf of the small and independent
1.22businesses of this state and expresses best wishes for the continued success of NFIB in the future.
1.23BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.24enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.25Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the National Federation
1.26of Independent Business.
