1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Minnesota School Boards Association on its 100th anniversary
1.3and recognizing School Board Recognition Week.
1.4WHEREAS, our communities are enhanced by those organizations that display exceptional
1.5commitment to excellence in the education of our young people and a 100th anniversary is an ideal
1.6occasion to celebrate such an organization's rich history; and
1.7WHEREAS, Minnesota School Boards Association began as part of the Minnesota Education
1.8Association before becoming an independently functioning organization. The first president of
1.9MSBA, Victor Anderson, helped draft the initial bylaws and, for its first 30 years of operation,
1.10MSBA was an entirely board- and committee-run association. MSBA hired its first Executive
1.11Director, Bill Wettergren, in 1950; and
1.12WHEREAS, as the eighth-oldest school board organization in the United States, MSBA has
1.13adapted its policies to reflect a century of societal change, a practice which has helped the association
1.14remain a valuable asset to the state's educators; and
1.15WHEREAS, the association serves as a leading advocate for public education and supports,
1.16promotes, and strengthens the work of public school boards; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18recognizes the valuable work of Minnesota School Boards Association and congratulates it on its
1.19milestone 100th anniversary and recognizes February 17 to 21, 2020, as School Board Recognition
1.20Week.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.22enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.23Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Minnesota School
1.24Boards Association.
