1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing the 50th anniversary of White Bear Center for the Arts.
1.3WHEREAS, the White Bear Arts Council filed its articles of incorporation with the Secretary
1.4of State's Office on May 16, 1968, to form a nonprofit organization with the mission of fostering
1.5creativity for experienced and emerging artists; and
1.6WHEREAS, in 1996, the White Bear Arts Council began offering year-round art classes
1.7and expanded programming in the local community and on May 22, 1997, the organization's name
1.8was changed to White Bear Center for the Arts; and
1.9WHEREAS, the center received the Humphrey School of Public Affairs' Local Government
1.10Innovation Award in 2010 for its innovative partnership with White Bear Lake Area Schools; and
1.11WHEREAS, as a result of tremendous growth, the center moved in 2013 into its current
1.12state-of-the-art facility, which has allowed the center to expand and diversify its program offerings;
1.13and
1.14WHEREAS, the 2015 Arts and Economic Prosperity IV report, conducted by Americans
1.15for the Arts, concluded that the center is a significant economic engine for the region, generating
1.16nearly $1.7 million in economic activity; and
1.17WHEREAS, the center is the only nonprofit arts organization in the greater northeast
1.18metropolitan area that offers a broad range of high-quality art classes and programs for children,
1.19adults, and families; and
1.20WHEREAS, the center is committed to diversity and inclusion and offers a wealth of
1.21programming in the arts, as well as artist development, performances, exhibitions, visual arts and
1.22writing contests in high schools, and outreach initiatives for underserved populations; and
2.1WHEREAS, the center's mission is to provide a gateway to diverse arts experiences by
2.2educating new and established artists, cultivating the understanding of art in its many forms, and
2.3celebrating the joys of art; and
2.4NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
2.5in honor of the center's 50th anniversary, it recognizes Wednesday, May 16, 2018, as White Bear
2.6Center for the Arts Day in Minnesota.
2.7BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.8enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.9Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to White Bear Center for
2.10the Arts.
