1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Cottage Grove Director of Public Safety Craig Woolery on his
1.3retirement.
1.4WHEREAS, Craig Woolery was hired in April 1983 and spent 35 years in Cottage Grove
1.5law enforcement serving in the following positions: community services officer, paramedic, police
1.6officer, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, deputy director of public safety, and director of public
1.7safety, and also served as Cottage Grove's interim city administrator in 2015; and
1.8WHEREAS, Craig was director of public safety since July 2006 and under his leadership
1.9the Cottage Grove Police Department moved from a basement to a state-of-the-art public safety
1.10building; and
1.11WHEREAS, in 2016 Craig helped the department transition from a police-paramedic model
1.12to a fire-based emergency medical service (EMS) system, bringing the average EMS response time
1.13to six minutes or less; and
1.14WHEREAS, Craig also served for 15 years on the Washington County Special Response
1.15Team as a tactical operator, tactical team leader, command staff member, and commander; and
1.16WHEREAS, Craig, in addition to his work for Cottage Grove, served as president of the
1.17Washington County Chiefs of Police Association, was a board member for the Youth Services
1.18Bureau, was a community board member of the Woodbury YMCA, and served as a D.A.R.E. officer
1.19for five years; and
1.20WHEREAS, Craig retired on February 23, 2018, and a reception was held on February 22
1.21and a retirement party on February 24; and
1.22NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.23congratulates Cottage Grove Director of Public Safety Craig Woolery for his 35 years of outstanding
1.24service to his community and extends best wishes to him in his retirement.
1.25BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.26enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.27Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Craig Woolery.
