1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing October 7, 2017, as Community School of Excellence Day in
1.3the City of St. Paul.
1.4WHEREAS, Community School of Excellence is a parent-community partnership that
1.5provides a world-class education through a caring and innovative environment that fosters inquisitive,
1.6knowledgeable, and compassionate students who embrace the Hmong culture and celebrate
1.7intercultural understanding and respect; and
1.8WHEREAS, in the fall of 2017, Community School of Excellence celebrated its 11th year
1.9by opening the doors to a new 127,000 square foot building, with 64 classrooms, high school-ready
1.10gymnasium, full-size soccer field, and a media/Hmong cultural center, making it the second-largest
1.11Hmong culture and language charter school in St. Paul; and
1.12WHEREAS, Community School of Excellence's new building will house a New American
1.13Center to provide basic social services to refugee and immigrant families which transition them to
1.14become self-sufficient and fully contributing citizens; and
1.15WHEREAS, Community School of Excellence continues to provide excellent services by
1.16developing partnerships with Hmong American Partnership, Hmong National Development Inc.,
1.17Hmong Education & Resource Today Fair, Hmong Minnesota Day at the State Fair, Minnesota
1.18Twins, Tickets for Kids Organization, and local businesses to bring more educational opportunities
1.19to the Hmong community; and
1.20WHEREAS, Community School of Excellence is educating the next generation of leaders
1.21through their Student Council Rising Stars, Asian Penguins, Community School of Excellence
1.22Dance Team, and Global Connections Program; and
1.23WHEREAS, Community School of Excellence parents, staff, students, and community are
1.24committed as a team to providing a quality education for all students to achieve high academic
1.25expectations and connect globally to Hmong communities around the world; and
1.26NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.27recognizes October 7, 2017, as Community School of Excellence Day in the City of St. Paul.
1.28BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.29enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.30Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Community School of
1.31Excellence.
