1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Peter Her.
1.3WHEREAS, Peter Her was born in Laos and immigrated to the United States as a refugee
1.4from the Vietnam War; and
1.5WHEREAS, in search of the American dream, Peter went on to pursue higher education,
1.6receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Lakeland College in 2000, a Master of
1.7Science in Computer Information Systems from the University of Phoenix in 2003, and a Ph.D. in
1.8Business Administration with a Specialization in Management Information Systems from
1.9Northcentral University in 2017; and
1.10WHEREAS, while spending over 20 years in the IT field, he also volunteered much of his
1.11time helping the community; and
1.12WHEREAS, he started his service to the community as president of Hmong American
1.13Student Association during undergraduate school and went on to serve the community as chairman
1.14of Hmong American Leadership Council's Civil Engagement Committee from 2012-2016, president
1.15of United Family Organization of Minnesota from 2007-2010, Education Chair of Her United of
1.16Minnesota, and currently as a senior adviser in that organization; and
1.17WHEREAS, Peter has been a huge supporter of civic engagement efforts within the Hmong
1.18community including the development of Hmong Pahwa, the Hmong National Grave Desecration
1.19Committee, and the rebuilding of General Vang Pao's statue in Chico, California, and is an active
1.20member of Hmong International Academy in Minneapolis; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22celebrates and honors Peter's passion for serving the community and acknowledges his service,
1.23influence, and commitment to the people of Minnesota.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.26Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Peter Her.
