1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Alexandra Grafe of Rochester on being named a Prudential Spirit of
1.3Community Award 2012 Distinguished Finalist.
1.4WHEREAS, Alexandra Grafe, an esteemed resident of Rochester and a senior at Mayo
1.5High School, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a
1.62012 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
1.7WHEREAS, this prestigious award presented by prudential Financial in partnership
1.8with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across
1.9America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and
1.10WHEREAS, Alexandra earned this award by giving generously of her time and energy to
1.11developing an anti-bullying campaign through Teen Council, of which she is an active member,
1.12which has now reached more than 5,000 students and community members and is now being
1.13implemented throughout southern Minnesota; and
1.14WHEREAS, Alexandra implemented the campaign when her brother, who was born deaf,
1.15like her, was bullied, physically attacked, and hospitalized; and
1.16WHEREAS, Alexandra will receive an engraved bronze medallion to commemorate her
1.17selection as a Distinguished Finalist, and based on her number of volunteer hours, she also has
1.18qualified for the President's Volunteer Service Award; and
1.19NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.20congratulates Alexandra Grafe as a recipient of a Prudential Spirit of Community Award, and
1.21recognizes her outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Alexandra Grafe.
