1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing April 16, 2012, as Drug Court Day in Minnesota.
1.3WHEREAS, drug courts are the most effective tool for reducing substance abuse and crime
1.4in our criminal justice system; and
1.5WHEREAS, drug courts are an essential component of our justice system which save vast
1.6criminal justice resources and return individuals to their communities as productive, taxpaying
1.7citizens; and
1.8WHEREAS, results of more than 100 program evaluations and at least four meta-analytic
1.9studies have yielded definitive evidence that drug courts are demonstrably effective and
1.10significantly improve substance abuse treatment outcomes, substantially reduce drug abuse and
1.11crime, and do so at less expense than any other justice strategy; and
1.12WHEREAS, the drug court movement has grown from the two original drug courts in 2001
1.13to over 38 operational drug courts in Minnesota; and
1.14WHEREAS, the time has come to put a drug court within reach of every person in need; and
1.15WHEREAS, Minnesota drug courts celebrate the promise of recovery and restored hope to
1.16drug court graduates and their families; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18congratulates Minnesota's drug courts for the significant contributions that they have made in
1.19reducing substance abuse, crime, and recidivism while saving valuable resources in this state, and
1.20recognizes April 16, 2012, as Drug Court Day in Minnesota.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.22an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
1.23the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Blue Earth
1.24County Drug Court.
