1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the memory of Christeen M. Stone.
1.3WHEREAS, our communities are enhanced by the presence of individuals who have lived
1.4full and rich lives and the poignant loss of those individuals is a solemn event; and
1.5WHEREAS, Christeen Stone grew up in Texas and spending time on her grandfather's farm
1.6instilled in her a spirit of hard work and resourcefulness that would persist throughout her life. She
1.7met her husband, Victor Stone, at Fort Snelling, and when Victor was deployed overseas, she and
1.8her infant son moved to Maplewood, Minnesota. Christeen and Victor enjoyed almost 70 years of
1.9marriage together in their beloved Maplewood home; and
1.10WHEREAS, she dedicated much of her life to the well-being of children, including raising
1.11four of her own, fostering many others, and making a career of her dedication by working for 25
1.12years at Gillette Children's Hospital and volunteering in her church nursery. There was nothing
1.13Christeen loved more than spending time with her growing family, including her grandchildren
1.14and great-grandchildren; and
1.15WHEREAS, her pioneer spirit resulted in Christeen developing a lasting love of gardening
1.16and she had exceptional talent for growing both flowers and vegetables at her home, which she
1.17joyfully shared with family, friends, and neighbors; and
1.18WHEREAS, when she reached her 60s, Christeen became a passionate advocate for legislative
1.19advancement of causes close to her heart, including the Living Will Bill and improved care for the
1.20aging and disadvantaged populations within her community; and
1.21WHEREAS, Christeen was known for the gratitude she showed for all of life's gifts, often
1.22vocalizing that she had been blessed beyond her dreams. A celebration of her life will be held on
1.23September 21, 2019, in Maplewood, Minnesota, a city she called her home for 75 years; and
2.1NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.2mourns the loss of Christeen M. Stone and extends its condolences to those whose lives she touched
2.3through her many years.
2.4BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.5enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.6Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family of Christeen
2.7M. Stone.
