1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Coach Larry Thompson for his accomplishments.
1.3WHEREAS, those who dedicate their coaching careers to pursuing the highest standards of
1.4excellence in high school athletics are deserving of special legislative recognition; and
1.5WHEREAS, Coach Larry Thompson has been the head football coach for Lakeville High
1.6School and Lakeville South High School for 38 years; and
1.7WHEREAS, after serving as an assistant coach for four years, Coach Thompson became
1.8head coach at Lakeville High School in 1979; and
1.9WHEREAS, over the course of his career, he amassed 259 wins, reached the Prep Bowl
1.10three times, and led his team to three state championships and six state finals; and
1.11WHEREAS, he was inducted into the Minnesota Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame
1.12in 2014 and was named Coach of the Year five times; and
1.13WHEREAS, Coach Thompson's influence over the past 38 years has been extensive, with
1.14numerous students advancing to college football programs, one former player achieving a career
1.15in the NFL, and several alumni pursuing their own coaching careers; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.17congratulates Coach Larry Thompson for his outstanding career, and extends best wishes to him
1.18for the future.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.20enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.21Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Coach Larry Thompson.
