1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Samantha Nielsen of Maplewood for receiving the Girl
1.3Scout Gold Award.
1.4WHEREAS, Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, helping girls
1.5to reach their full potential, develop positive values, and contribute to the improvement of society
1.6through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others; and
1.7WHEREAS, to earn the highest award given by the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the Gold
1.8Award, a Girl Scout in high school must complete leadership journeys that help her discover her
1.9interests, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. She must then
1.10complete a comprehensive and sustainable take action project that uses her talent and passion to
1.11positively impact her community; and
1.12WHEREAS, Samantha Nielsen is a serving and responsible member of Troop 51742 and
1.13has completed all requirements necessary to earn the Gold Award; and
1.14WHEREAS, Samantha's Gold Award project, entitled Garden at Gammelgarden, involved
1.15helping Gammelgarden, a Swedish museum in Scandia, Minnesota, depict a more accurate
1.16representation of how Scandinavian immigrants lived when they originally settled in this area;
1.17for her project, Samantha decided to create a traditional Swedish garden for "Immigrant Hus" at
1.18Gammelgarden that would enhance the beauty of the area, restore the original look of the house,
1.19and depict life of early Scandinavian settlers; and
1.20WHEREAS, she will receive the Gold Award at a Recognition Ceremony on Sunday,
1.21June 12, 2011; and
1.22NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.23congratulates Samantha Nielsen for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.26Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Samantha Nielsen.
