1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Dr. Thomas F. Stinson of Roseville for 26 years of public
1.3service as Minnesota's State Economist.
1.4WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas F. Stinson has served as Minnesota's State Economist since 1987,
1.5a contract position in Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB), where his duties include
1.6preparing the state's budget forecasts, providing economic updates, and monitoring the state's
1.7revenue collections; and
1.8WHEREAS, Stinson is easily the longest serving State Economist in Minnesota's history,
1.9serving five governors and 14 department commissioners; and
1.10WHEREAS, Stinson is also a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied
1.11Economics at the University of Minnesota; and
1.12WHEREAS, Stinson was born in 1942 and is a native of the state of Washington; and
1.13WHEREAS, Stinson served in the Maryland National Guard from 1966 to 1969, and was
1.14activated during the 1968 riots in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore following the assassination of
1.15Martin Luther King, Jr. He also served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1970 to 1972; and
1.16WHEREAS, Stinson received a bachelor's degree in political science from Washington
1.17State University, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Minnesota; and
1.18WHEREAS, Stinson has been a past president of the Minnesota Economic Association, and
1.19is currently a member of the economic advisory boards of the both Twin Cities newspapers; and
1.20WHEREAS, Stinson has also worked as an economist for the United States Department of
1.21Agriculture before assuming his current position; and
1.22NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.23it congratulates Dr. Thomas F. Stinson for his 26 years of outstanding public service to the
1.24State of Minnesota.
1.25BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.26enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.27Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Dr. Thomas F. Stinson.
